Wandering the Climate Change Mall
/In the days when I went shopping at malls (pre-Covid), I’d been known to leave by the wrong door and wonder what happened to my car. Facing so many things to look at led me to lose track of where I was.
Choosing your personal climate change actions can be like that and leave you feeling lost. In an earlier blogpost, I focused on trying to sort what areas of climate change I was attracted to. It did help when I separated my interests into five groups. I labeled them like the store labels in the mall diagram: Food, Stuff, Energy, Habitats, and the Life Support needs of Air and Water. You can rate your own interests in these climate layers HERE.
If your style is to quickly learn about the climate action options that are out there, focusing on them may be the best place to start. For others, this outer focus is so confusing that it’s actually more efficient to start with taking stock your personal situation.
This is like what I’d do at a new, unfamiliar mall. There, I’d usually take the time to find the map at a spot marked You Are Here.
Taking Climate Choices Personally
I am now in the process of how to take a personal inventory when facing climate action options. I’m developing exercises to clarify what we each bring to the table, both our resources and heart-felt caring. Getting a clearer picture of our strengths and limits can provide that You Are Here spot before exploring the many options for action.
Stay tuned for personal inventory steps to guide you to climate choices that fit for you as well as benefitting the planet.
